Happy Fall!!
High School art students had the opportunity to participate in a raku firing workshop with Stockton High School art students. This year we traveled to Stockton. Th weather did not cooperate this time and we had to move the raku fire from Friday, October 13th to Monday, October 15th. We had guest instructor Joseph Hernandez out to help us again this year. Joe has been working with us on the raku firing workshop since 2016. He is a retired ceramics instructor and has shared so much knowledge and experience with us.
We had a beautiful day and fired between 80-90 pieces of pottery before noon! Students were happy with how their pieces turned out and were surprised with the glaze finishes.

Art and Choice students also had a wonderful trip to Chicago on Wednesday, October 18th. We visited the Chicago History Museum first and learned about important events in Chicago's history such as the great fire. There were "haunted' dolls intermixed in the exhibits that the students could hunt for as well. A few took on this challenge. It was interested to hear the stories of the dolls and they people who owned them. After lunch at Portillo's, we saw the musical "Hamilton". It was wonderful to see this show in person.
I have started choosing Artists in the Spotlight for this school year. This is one person from each class from each project that worked hard, followed directions and did their very best. These artworks are on display outside my classroom.
Advanced Art students created Book Nooks or Shadow Boxes as their first project. They will be going on display at the Pearl City Public Library very soon. Check back for more info.
